World Explorer Day - St. George's Day

22nd April 2021
For our World Explorer Day this half term, we took a trip to England in honour of St George's Day.  It was an opportunity to learn about the story of our patron saint and explore what life is like in some of our major cities, whilst comparing it to our country experiences in Devon.
Eagles spent the morning 'exploring' England, using atlases to locate England and English cities on a variety of blank maps. They then compared city and country life in England and focused on famous landmarks situated in English cities. They found out about the history of St George's Day and sang the national anthem together.
Owls and Little Owls thought about St George and the flag; they made bunting and talked about Stonehenge and a city called London. They topped the day off with a lovely Tea Party celebration with scones, strawberries and blueberries!
Falcons recreated the English flag, took a quick "trip" to London, thought about where they would like to visit in the country and created their own St Georges and dragons. Kestrels enjoyed the opportunity to learn more about our patron saint and our country.
