March 2025

The Little Owls have had a busy week celebrating Pancake Day, World Book Day and learning the story of the Three Little Pigs.  We have joined in with the repeating refrains in the story and made houses from a variety of materials.  We are also keeping a very close eye on the tadpoles!
After listening to the story of the hungry caterpillar and naming the fruits, The Little Owls had fruit kebabs for snack.  We tried melon, strawberries, kiwis and bananas.  We were not all a fan of the kiwi but were excited to try new food.  The older children had a go at threading the fruit onto skewers, very carefully!
The Little Owls have been comparing size as part of the Jack and the Beanstalk theme.  We have been drawing around their hands and feet and using cubes to measure their size.  Some of us even had a go at writing the number of cubes!
This week the Little Owls have been listening to the story of Goldilocks and the 3 Bears.  We have explored the story through puppets, sensory play with oats, and even made our own bears from play dough.  We have also been keeping a close eye on our caterpillars who this week have formed cocoons.  We can't wait to see butterflies!
The Little Owls and Fledglings baby and toddler group were very lucky to have a visit from Dayne's Farm this week.  We were able to hold and feed lambs and kids.  The children (and adults!) were absolutely thrilled to have such an exciting visit.  It also tied it very nicely with this week's theme of 'The 3 Billy Goats Gruff!'  We were able to compare sizes of the real goats and make links to our story.
